Two main themes are covered in Resource Extraction in sub-SaharanAfrica in this section. One examines the connection between investment and developmentlooking at structures and activities at the local, regional, national and global levels that either support or undermine this intricate relationship. The other looks more specifically at the dynamics of stakeholder engagement to understand how conflict or collaboration transpires. In particular, we record struggles of local communities with their governments and the Multinational mining companies, to gain some small measure of control over their mineral resources, and their community life.
